In one week in late October, we watched the Rehearsal Facility / Student Dorm appear.

REHEARSAL FACILITY / STUDENT DORM TRUSSES

October 22, 2007

Mid-afternoon, trusses arrive for the Rehearsal Facility / Student Dorm. On October 23, the trusses are set in place with the use of a crane.

By the end of day on October 23, trusses are in place over much of the building, catching the setting sun. (We are facing east, and Woody's Woodshed is in the foreground shadows.)

Below, a view from the inside.

Steel beams for the central rehearsal hall appear towering and begin to give us an idea of the actual space.

Steel beams that will support the central rehearsal space in the Rehearsal Facility / Student Dorm are in place, as are the roof trusses for practice and ensemble rooms.

CONSTRUCTING THE VAULTED SPACE IN THE REHEARSAL HALL

The rehearsal hall will feature a vaulted, exposed interior as seen in the digital rendering.

October 25, 2007

Vertical I-beams are used to form the vaulted open space in the large rehearsal hall. The vertical beams are joined with horizontal beams. Due to the weight and height of the beams, a crane is used to carefully maneuver the beams into place, guided by the crew working from hydraulic scaffolds. Once the first beam is in place, the others are positioned.

Next, the crane holds the octagonal "crown" above the supporting beam structure while diagonal side beams are attached, holding the crown in place.

Diagonal beams that are fitted into the crown join it to the supporting beam structure.

Seen from County Highway E, the Rehearsal Facility / Student Dorm fits beautifully into the Birch Creek and rural Door County landscapes.
