Birch Creek Opens the 2022 Season with “Pop Goes Percussion!”

EGG HARBOR, Wis. (June 10, 2022) – On Thursday, June 23, Birch Creek Music Performance Center will present its opening night concert – “Pop Goes Percussion” – on the Stage of Stars inside the historic Dutton Concert Barn. Opening night at Birch Creek is a festive gathering of concertgoers, returning faculty, new students, donors, volunteers and local businesses celebrating the much-anticipated 2022 season of Percussion & Steel Band, Symphony and Big Band Jazz concerts. This year marks Birch Creek’s 47th year of excellence in music education and world-class concert performances.

Percussion & Steel Band launches the first two weeks of the 2022 season with concerts featuring faculty performing artists and advanced student musicians. These exceptional professional musicians come together once a year at Birch Creek and perform a wide array of musical styles, including Caribbean steel pan, standard percussion ensembles, classic jazz, world percussion, rearrangements of popular contemporary pieces, and new music.

Dan Moore, Professor of Percussion at University of Iowa, will return for his 24th season and his seventh year as Program Director of the Percussion & Steel Band session.

Following opening night, the first week of concerts continues with “Percussion: Elegant and Exotic” on Friday, June 24 and “Pop Goes Percussion!” on Saturday afternoon, June 25, at 3:00 PM. On Thursday, June 30, the evening concert features “Percussion: Playful & Pretty.” On July 1, two concerts will be presented with a 3:00 PM matinee and the James R. Dutton Memorial Concert at 7:00 PM with “Artistry in Steel Pan featuring Liam Teague.” “Closing Night: Percussion’s Greatest ‘Hits’” concludes the session on Saturday, July 2.

Percussion & Steel Band concerts, including opening night, start at 7:00 PM with student prelude music in the Jackie & Steve Kane Gazebo at 6:30 PM. Tickets are available for purchase online at or by phone at (920) 868-3763. Prices are $29 for adults, $10 for students, and $6 for children (11 and under). Premium seating is also available in the front-center section of the barn, priced at $36 for all ages. Group rates are also available for parties of 10 or more. Birch Creek Music Performance Center celebrates its 47th year as Door County’s Residential Summer Music Academy in Egg Harbor, WI, for advanced young musicians. With a performance emphasis, students are taught by nationally known performers and educators during the day and perform alongside them in concerts at night. Four sessions focus on Percussion & Steel Band, Symphony, and Big Band Jazz.
