Communicable Disease Evacuation Policy

Communicable Disease Evacuation Policy

The COVID-19 pandemic remains a concern at Birch Creek, despite progress made on vaccination and treatment of the disease. Due to increased awareness about the need for protective measures for this (and other) communicable disease, Birch Creek has adopted a policy for communicable disease control. Health and safety is of the greatest importance at Birch Creek. Our approved health and safety protocols require that any student displaying a contagious disease is to be isolated until parents or guardians can evacuate the student. Birch Creek requires that all students be protected by appropriate evacuation procedures.

Birch Creek would be in a difficult predicament if a student was displaying symptoms, but unable to be evacuated. Simply, we are not be equipped to keep a student isolated for the duration of a positive COVID-19 case or other communicable disease. Therefore, due to health and safety protocols established to help mitigate risk of all facets of Birch Creek programming, the following procedures will be in force for the 2021 reopening season:

o  Students will not be accepted into the program unless there is a designated adult contact/individual who can arrive at Birch Creek within a day of notification by Birch Creek of the student’s illness and preliminary diagnosis.

o  The designated individual shall provide for necessary medical treatment and immediately evacuate the student by appropriate means. All students must provide Birch Creek with emergency contact and evacuation information prior to arrival.

o  The student’s parent or legal guardian shall execute a Designation of Legal Guardian form to identify the name and address of the designated individual, the intended method of evacuation appropriate to the student’s residence and method of transportation, and other information required by Birch Creek to assist in the student’s care and treatment.
