Musical Theater Love Songs Featured at Birch Creek Valentine’s Concert
EGG HARBOR, Wis. – Birch Creek Music Performance Center celebrates the Valentine’s weekend with an evening concert of musical theater love songs featuring Tenor and Birch Creek Alumnus, Jonathan Zeng. On Saturday evening, February 11, Zeng will be joined on the Juniper Hall stage by Diana Stoic (soprano) and Michael R. Oldham (piano).
Repertoire for the concert will include love songs from the worlds of musical theater, opera, and popular music. Listen for favorites by Rodgers & Hammerstein, George & Ira Gershwin, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Leonard Bernstein, and others.
Doors open at 5:15 PM. Social time begins at 5:30 PM followed by delectable heavy hors d’oeuvres and light desserts prepared by Culinaria, served at 6:00 PM. A cash bar is open throughout the evening. The concert begins at 7:00 PM.
Tickets for the Valentine’s Concert are $95 per person and may be purchased online at BirchCreek.org/Tickets. Birch Creek’s winter office hours are Monday-Thursday, 9AM-4PM and Friday 9AM-2PM.
Jonathan Zeng is a critically acclaimed tenor lauded for his versatility as a performer and accomplished in Musical Theater, Opera, Oratorio and Concert repertoire. He has performed throughout the United States with companies such as Cincinnati Opera, Central City Opera, Tulsa Opera, Opera Memphis, Utah Festival Opera, and the Princeton Festival. With a voice described by Chicago publications as “valiant”, “stunning”, “vibrant”, and “rich”, Jonathan is based in Chicago and has appeared as soloist with The William Ferris Chorale in the American premiere of John Joubert’s Five Songs of Incarnation and Bonaventura Somma’s Missa Pro Defunctis. You may also have seen him singing with the Grant Park Symphony Chorus, Chicago Opera Theater, Chicago Folks Operetta, or as a company member in numerous Chicago Fringe Opera productions.
Soprano Diana Stoic is a versatile performer who has been seen across the Midwest and Chicago-area. As a member of the Supplementary Chorus at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Diana is currently in their production of Carmen. She performs with many local opera companies and musical organizations including Chicago Opera Theater, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Illinois Philharmonic, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Chicago Sinfonietta, Chicago Fringe Opera, DuPage Symphony Orchestra, and Des Moines Metro Opera.
Michael R. Oldham, piano, is a composer and pianist who keeps very busy as a freelance pianist in the Chicagoland area playing for cabarets, shows, and high school choir programs. Michael also works as a music director with famed Chicago comedy institution The Second City, playing for their touring companies and loving every second of it! Other professional productions Michael has played for include Queer Eye: The Musical Parody at the Second City and Children of Eden, which was in association with Broadway in Chicago where he was able to work side-by-side with Stephen Schwartz, Michelle Williams, Sam Tsui, and more musical greats. He has collaborated with Chicago Fringe Opera, the Art Institute of Chicago, New Music Chicago, and has performed everywhere from the Green Mill to the Kennedy Center.
